Gonzalo Diaz, 44, of Bridgeport, was arrested on Union Avenue on Tuesday, Jan. 8, for his alleged role in the fatal shooting of Denise Rogers-Rollins in Waterbury in December, police said. He is believed to be the third and “final” suspect from Bridgeport to be arrested for their roles in the fatal incident.
Police investigators responded to a Wall Street home shortly after midnight on Saturday, Dec. 7, where there was a report of shots fired in the building, police said. Upon arrival, they found the Rogers-Rollins, 58, with a gunshot wound in her abdomen. She was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Rogers-Rollins’ cause of death was ultimately determined to be a gunshot wound to the torso, by the Medical Examiner. Police investigators determined the death was a homicide and launched an extensive investigation that has led to multiple arrests.
Last month, Waterbury police investigators arrested Bridgeport residents Howard Jefferson, 48, and Shavonnah Draper, 26, who were each charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Each is being held in lieu of a $1 million bond.
Following his arrest, Diaz was charged with felony murder, conspiracy to commit felony murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, criminal attempt at first-degree robbery, criminal use of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.
Diaz was arraigned in Superior Court in Waterbury on Wednesday, Jan. 8 and is currently being held on a $1.5 million bond.
